visiting huckleberry bag

The images on this bag are from a custom beaded, two sided tea cozy I created in 2022 for a cousin's first born, named Huckleberry. It just so happens, my favourite berry to hunt and harvest is the mountain huckleberry. I am telling the story, through beads, of my relationship to the Dakelh land I grew up on where the elusive mountain huckleberries abound. I chose plants that are in season when the hucklerry bush is in bloom, as well as when the berries are ripe. I included some traditional Michif florals and elements too. The one side represents early summer when the plant is in blossom. I beaded plants that are growing during that time - wild roses, fireweed, and wild strawberries. The second side represents late summer when the berries are ready to harvest. Colourful antioxidants stored in the plant cells, anthocyanins, get released and turn the berries a very dark purple and the leaves hints of red! I beaded a few plants still in bloom - purple asters, rose hips, bluebead lily berries and daisies.

Please enjoy the image of my beadwork on your limited edition bag, which is custom stamped with my logo and signed.
