miýotêhêw (good-hearted) wall pocket giclée print
This wall pocket was completed in 2024 during an online mentorship with Gregory Scofield through the Amelia Douglas Institute. Wall pockets were created by Métis, and other Indigenous groups, during the Victorian Era to store household items and keepsakes. I named this wall pocket, miýotêhêw (she/ he has a good hearted). I created this original design inspired by Métis ancestor floral motifs. I used a combination of antique, vintage, and contemporary beads, including rare ones. The materials include Melton wool, fox braid, cotton fabric, denim fabric, satin ribbon, and brain tanned moose hide. The original wall pocket measures 10" by 13", excluding the beaded fringe and hide tab. The giclée print measures 15" by 20", which makes the image slightly bigger than the original piece and allowing for greater detail of the beadwork.
The original wall pocket is owned by the Métis Nation of Alberta for education purposes.
