This painting is one of two we collaborated on. We invited community members to mark make in the layering process. LL was inspired by one of Michael’s works of art and used the outline of the bison from his mixed media piece to bring this painting to completion. Bison, paskwamostos, were central to Métis cultural life. The bison were nearly killed to extinction in an attempt by the colonial government to erase Indigenous people, including Métis people, from the prairies.
